Maruti Alto 800 – Autoportal reviews the enduring car from Maruti

Maruti Suzuki, the favourite automaker of the country has a long list of efficient cars to its credit. Maruti 800, the car that ran for more than 3 decades gradually evolved into the Alto and then into the Maruti Alto 800 and Alto K10. Alto has been India’s top selling car for nearly ten years in a row.

The initial take-off

When the sales of standard Alto starting falling down, the engineers at Maruti Suzuki worked hard for nearly four years and with an investment of Rs 470 crores, they developed the all-new Alto 800. Maruti unveiled the improved Alto 800 at New Delhi in the year 2012. And as expected, the new car was instantly appreciated and it attained the milestone of selling 100,000 units just within 124 days of its launch.


Structure and Features

Alto 800 is an entry level compact hatchback best suited for a small family which offers decent comfort features. It has a taller profile and looks a little more contemporary than the original Alto. The cabin is spacious and the boot area has space of about 177 litres. Heating / Ventilating AC unit, single DIN music system with optional speakers, storage spaces like bottle holders in front, map pockets, a deep and wide glove box and a foldable rear seat are some of the extra features. Features like airbags, power steering and remote boot opener are offered only in the high end variant.
